Reflecting on the DEI workshop- a Diary Entry by Manisha
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Conservation practitioners engaged in wildlife and biodiversity conservation often collaborate with local communities, NGOs, and Forest Departments, but differing perspectives may lead to implicit biases and negative attitudes towards certain groups. This project aimed to create awareness and understanding of the diversity present in all landscapes, while recognizing and examining implicit biases that may arise from unequal treatment and exclusion of certain sections of the local community. This is based on the diversity-equity-inclusivity (DEI) principles. By fostering inclusivity and encouraging reflection on gender, caste, privilege, and regional biases, this initiative seeks to empower practitioners to be effective leaders in conservation.
OUR OBJECTIVE
1. Foster awareness of implicit biases and their influence on decision-making processes among conservation practitioners.
2. Promote understanding of the importance of diversity in conservation approaches, encouraging inclusivity and equity in conservation efforts.
3. Empower conservation practitioners to engage in self-reflection, address implicit biases, and develop emotional intelligence to enhance the success and impact of conservation initiatives.
