Green School

Green School began as a thought…then a concern. A quiet worry that children, though surrounded by forests, were growing distant from them with slingshots on their hands. With a hope to reconnect them with nature- not through rules or fear, but through love, play, and affection- the idea slowly took root in Gobuk, a small village in Arunachal Pradesh.

green school
Green School is a space where children follow butterflies, draw elephants on the clouds, and find friends in birds and animals, in the seeds, in the birdsongs, and village stories. Elders and women become teachers, the forest becomes the classroom, and curiosity becomes the curriculum.
Objectives
The objectives of Green School are:

1. Encourage nature connection and learning through creative expression: To conduct nature-based activities, such as art, storytelling, and outdoor games, to help children understand and appreciate local wildlife.

2. Build a trained community team for Green School: To train members of the two local women’s self-help groups within the next year to lead Green School activities, ensuring a sustainable team that supports the program’s growth.

3. To work with local educators and community members in new villages to initiate Green School programs, ensuring each site reflects its unique ecology and culture while staying rooted in the core values of nature education.
